2017 CIADFF以探索內心、發現精神寶藏之紀錄片為主題,審視當代文明發展,深入藝術之內在,探討藝術態樣。在探索之中、或是個人或情境、或再現過往,均指向隱藏中處處真實而罕見的價值。2017CIADFF 將透過藝術紀錄片書寫珍貴的藝術篇章、珍藏藝術。

“Inner Treasure” is the main theme of 2017 CIADFF. By observing the development of civilization, including individuals, environment, and the past, we believe that the unique treasure for everyone exist somewhere in between, and could be discovered eventually.

Cinema e muller是來自西班牙的西北部城鎮的電影人所發起的計畫,這個計劃目的在提倡女性電影創作,《視界》屬於這個計畫中的一部分。《視界》是十位來自不同國家的女性導演作品,透過影像的實例鼓勵女性勇於表達自身故事。如果語言是這個世界的根基,那麼影像所闡述的語言,可以作為更根本的表達方式,因此不論在當代的電影語彙或是影像的書寫歷史,都需要女性角度豐富其多元觀點。

VISIÓNS is a part of “Cinema e muller”, a project initiated by filmmakers from a town in northwestern Spain with the aim of promoting women’s cinema. Comprising the works of ten directors from different countries, it encourages women to bravely tell their own stories through real life examples documented on video. If language is the foundation of the world, then the language of images can be described as a more elementary way of expression. Therefore, be it in the realm of contemporary film lexis or the written history of video, the female perspective is required to diversify viewpoints.

計畫介紹Project Intro

Cinema e Muller是一個針對西班牙加利西亞自治區中,蓬特韋德拉省所進行的計畫,計畫主要希望研究在這裡生活或出生的錄像藝術家,與電影創作者。這個在西班牙西北部的廣大區域中,竟然誕生了70位創作者,而Cinema e Muller計畫(http://www.depo.es/cinema-e-muller)希望把這些創作者的故事、作品與自傳資訊放在網站上,讓更多人認識。而《視界》是被選出的10位女性創作者,一同交織創作出的當代藝術與影像作品,所結合而成的s影片。

台灣當代錄像藝術家許雅婷,與其夫婿修傑夫(Geoffrey Hughes)合作,將影像作為創作媒材,試圖打破限制疆界的同時,向觀者呈現碎片般的感官經驗,以揭露其內在境地。她在《The River》中毫無保留地展現個人最私密的一面,以懷孕、生產的紀實影像,搭配著抽象的水中舞蹈,呈現女性孕育生命的歷程。生育是醫療介入、是社會俗成,以及讓身體不再屬於自身的衝擊,影片中導演透過真誠的面對自我,呈現隱晦於腦中的一切。

Taiwanese contemporary video artist Hsu Ya-Ting has collaborated with her husband, Geoffrey Hughes, in a work which not only endeavors to break free of limits and boundaries, but also offers viewers a fragmented sensory experience, thereby revealing its inner state. In The River, Hsu shows her most private side without reservation, depicting a woman’s journey in bringing a life to the world by combining documentary footage of her pregnancy and the birth of her child, as well as images of abstract dancing in water. Giving birth is a medical intervention, a widespread phenomenon, and a shock resulting from the surrender of one’s body. The director lays bare everything that is concealed in her mind by facing herself honestly.

許雅婷,2009年於芝加哥藝術學院電影錄像新媒體研究所畢業。嘗試用各種型態進行創作,創作手法包括紀錄片、劇情片與實驗片。創作過程常以回憶及真實情感的投射,進而敘說大社會結構如何剝奪個人對命運掌握。《The River》為許雅婷與其夫修傑夫(Geoffrey Hughes)共同完成的創作,同時也入圍2017年的美國安娜堡電影節(Ann Arbor film festival)。

2011年末,藝術家張博洋閱讀了《梅洛龐蒂—眼與心》一書,他對詩人托馬斯.特朗斯特羅默(Tomas Transtromer)的《詩17首》裡頭的一句詩「醒來就是從夢中往外跳傘」感到震撼,於是將梅洛龐帝與托馬斯所帶來的感受,拍成了一部實驗電影《活在他方》。《活在他方》影片分為「抑制」、「失衡」和「折返」三段,描述著五個生活在公寓裡的人,這些人由「沉睡者」所創造,每當其中一人夢見他者的時候,另一個人就會消失。影片呈現著被迫消失的「他者」,逐漸想要證明自己的真實存在,以及想要逃離夢境、成為「我」的企圖。

In late 2011, artist Chang Po-Yang read Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s L’Œil et l'Esprit and was captivated by the line “Waking up is a parachute jump from dreams.” from the poetry collection, 17 dikter (17 poems), by Tomas Tranströmer. Consequently, he transformed the inspiration he gained from the two writers into the experimental film, Je est un autre (I as the other). The feature is divided into three sections: “Suppression”, “Imbalance”, and “Turning Back”. It tells the story of five people, created by “Sleepers”, who share an apartment. Whenever one of them dreams of one of the other inhabitants, that person disappears. The “others”, who are forced to disappear, gradually develop a desire to prove their material existence, attempting to escape from the dreamscape and become “me”.

張博洋,台灣高雄人,畢業於崑山科技大學,以實驗影像、繪畫、底片攝影等創作為主,長期關注於記憶的存在與消亡的斷面、通過其藝術形式將之賦予哲思與詩意,其影像作品曾於法國、西班牙、美國等國展。作品《活在他方》(Je est un autre)曾於白俄羅斯當代藝術中心播映。

在酷暑的夏日裡,有兩個生命的掙扎。《夏日酷暑的輓歌》,透過兩個看似互不相干的事件,運用雙線交錯的手法,讓觀眾在觀看影片時,自然在內心產生認知上的矛盾與道德上的衝突。導演謝光誠透過實驗性短片,以一隻蚊子的掙扎同時結合社會事件為主題,透過隱喻式的影像,讓觀眾思考影片的意義與找尋屬於自己的答案。《夏日酷暑的輓歌》獲選世界頂尖短片影展-法國克萊蒙費宏短片國際影展和義大利Fano國際影展競賽,並在國內重要的影展中,如金馬影展與遊牧影展等備受好評。

In the relentless summer heat, two lives are struggling for survival. Through two seemingly unrelated events and the use of a bilinear narrative, A Song For Killing Summer naturally generates cognitive contradictions and moral conflicts within viewers as they watch the film. Director Hsieh Guang-Cheng combines the struggles of a mosquito with societal events in this experimental short, allowing audiences to interpret the meaning of the film for themselves and also find their own answers through metaphoric images. The work was selected to compete in some of the world’s top short film festivals – the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France and the Fano International Film Festival in Italy. It also garnered critical acclaim at major domestic film festivals, such as the Golden Horse Film Festival and the Urban Nomad Film Fest.

謝光誠為自由影像導演,畢業於英國倫敦電影學院(London Film School),曾拍攝眾多電視廣廣告,創作短片也多次榮獲國際影展獎項及許多國際影展的青睞及肯定。在紀錄片的工作經歷中,曾參與公共電視台灣前衛藝術家紀錄片系列節目的拍攝,近期,謝光達則參與國家人權博物館歷史紀錄片《綠島醫生:蘇友鵬》及《僑生受難記:陳欽生》拍攝工作。

以強烈「反男性觀看」主題起家的攝影藝術家侯淑姿,自留美回台後即多次於黑白照片個展中呈現諷刺男性的性觀點,尤其是偷窺女性的傾向。後來侯淑姿的主題轉入女工、族群調查、越南外配,最後來到眷村,但即便其藝術涉入更多實體裝置與文字田調,卻也都沒離開女性的自主意識,甚至企圖超越男性來主導眷村歷史的書寫。本短片帶出女性成為攝影家所引動的家庭處境,以及社會加諸於自身的莫大壓力;侯淑姿的確是眾多女性主義藝術家中獨步歷史深坑的孤影,她的影像一再浮現對抗性的影像及文字深思。

Lulu Shur-tzy Hou, a photographic artist who began her career with works demonstrating strong feminist themes, has exhibited her monochrome works which mock the male perspective on sex, especially voyeuristic tendencies towards women, on numerous occasions since returning to Taiwan from the United States. She eventually moved onto topics such as women workers, ethnicity, Vietnamese spouses, and, ultimately, the military dependents’ village. Although her art branched out to include physical installations, writing, and field research, it continued to revolve around women’s sense of autonomy. She even attempted to conquer the male-dominated field of writing about the history of the military dependents’ village. This short highlights the familial situation and societal pressures faced by a woman who decided to become a photographer. Hou is indeed a solitary shadow among the many feminist artists throughout history – seeing footages of her once again conjures up antagonistic reflections on images and text.

侯淑姿,台大哲學系畢業,美國羅徹斯特理工學院(Rochester Institute of Technology)影像藝術碩士,現任國立高雄大學傳統工藝與創意設計學系專任助理教授,曾任台北市文化局研究員、輔大與台藝大講師,作品曾於台灣、日本、香港、中國大陸、美國、英國、義大利、維也納展出。作品探討自我、性別認同、身份認同、第三世界的女性勞工等議題,深具社會批判性。近作是以亞洲新娘為題,深入探索這些新移民的處境,正視其自我意識與身份認同。

黃明川,出生於嘉義,曾赴紐約與洛杉磯學習繪畫、攝影等,致力於獨立製片多年,《西部來的人》、《寶島大夢》、《破輪胎》等三部為其電影劇情長片作品,而近年來他專注於拍攝藝術紀錄片,以藝術及藝術家為拍攝主體,涵蓋藝術領域多元,為臺灣藝術留下眾多紀錄。

印度導演阿南.巴瓦丹(Anand Patwardhan)在1995年透過兩段式的記錄手法,闡述著印度教國族主義與當地婦女遭遇性暴力兩者間的關聯性、以及印度社會中以男性特質為主流思想的氛圍下,何以助長性暴力事件的發生。導演阿南.巴瓦丹試圖站在「他者」角度,透過影像記錄當時印度男性因缺乏安全感下,而形成的暴力心境,並進一步以男子氣概為名,建構社會中對於「他者」的殘酷。影片中透過層層的影像、觀點與反向觀點,呈現當時印度社會表層之下的政治、與社會傳達中女性暴力的流行觀點。這部影片在完成後的隔年,便獲得印度當地兩項國家級的電影獎項,為改變印度當代影像觀點的重要作品。

In 1995, Indian director Anand Patwardhan depicted the interrelation between Hindu nationalism and sexual violence against local women, as well as how the prevalent ideology of male dominance in Indian society promotes the occurrence of such crimes, through two approaches. By attempting to adopt the perspective of “the others”, he documented how the insecurity of Indian men at the time gave rise to a violent state of mind which, in turn, led to atrocities against “the others” in the name masculinity. Through a multitude of images and views from both sides, the film presents the prevailing stances, conveyed both politically and socially, on violence against women in Indian society at the time. This feature won two national awards in the filmmaker’s homeland the year after it was made, and played an important role in changing the perspective of contemporary Indian video works.

阿南.巴瓦丹(Anand Patwardhan)1950年出生於孟買,在學習藝術多年後,轉而擔任記者與導演,於2014年獲孟買國際電影節終身成就獎之殊榮。擔任記者與導演這40多年間,他致力於記錄印度社會中的不公義,為社會最底層的人們發聲與抗爭。然而因拍攝與記錄的內容,往往與政府站在對立面,作品常常面臨政府的抵制,但他仍努力不懈,捍衛其的作品。《父親兒子與聖戰》於2013年獲得英國雪菲爾德國際紀錄片影展(MeetMarket)的肯定。

導演張烈東在某次參加戲劇研習營時,因緣際會下認識了陳惠蘭老師。在閱讀了她的散文著作《鏡前的戲子》後,深刻體悟到一位平凡的退休老師,卻有著許多不平凡的事蹟與值得學習的地方。導演張烈東透過戲劇研習營的課程,展開兩年多的貼身紀錄。身為嘉義市人的陳惠蘭老師,以藝術創作為自己的生命、畫下許多色彩,並在熱愛戲劇的創作中嘗試刻畫自身生命的價值,如《鏡前的戲子》散文一作,揭露其用愛經營生命的成長軌跡。

Fate led director Tony Chang to be acquainted with Chen Huilan at a drama camp one year. After reading her essay collection, In Front of Mirror, he came to the profound realization that there was much to learn from this ordinary retired teacher who had accomplished many extraordinary deeds. Chang documented Chen closely through drama camp courses for over two years. Hailing from Chiayi City, the teacher has dedicated her life to artistic creation, adding much color to the world in the process. She has also tried to define the value of her own life through her enthusiasm for creating stage productions. Her aforementioned prose anthology, for example, reveals how she has cultivated life with love.

2010年,兩位來自烏干達的年輕女孩,瑪莎.納布爾與妮基.紗帕斯,參加了一場全球最盛大的國際街舞競賽Juste Debout,此場競賽堪稱是街舞界的奧林匹克,更是世界各地街舞愛好者的朝聖賽事。瑪莎和尼基的雙人組合就在這一年拿下世界嘻哈冠軍,更是史上首次同時由兩位女性獲得。影片紀錄著兩個人對於跳舞的熱愛、彼此間的友誼,以及一起透過試驗的旅程。導演托拉.姆坎達维爾(Tora Mkandawire Mårtens)呈現著兩人對於生命的渴望、追求、以及尋找人生道路的種種經歷,在熱血的競賽中充滿著無限的情感與生命力。

In 2010, two young girls from Uganda, Martha Nabwire and Niki Tsappos, took part in Juste Debout, one of the world’s biggest international street dance competitions. The contest is likened to the Olympics of street dancing and enthusiasts from all over the world embark on a pilgrimage to attend the event. The duo emerged victorious in the Hip Hop New Style category that year, marking the first time in history that the title was claimed by two women. The film documents Martha and Niki’s love for dancing, their friendship, and the trials they faced together. Director Tora Mkandawire Mårtens shows audiences the duo’s desire for life, their pursuits, and the various experiences the girls encounter as they navigate through life, capturing infinite emotion and vitality in the midst of heated competition.

中國當代藝術家展望有項驚人的作品《我的宇宙》,他計畫爆破一塊巨石,並用高速攝像機從六個不同角度拍攝爆炸的場面,然後將六面體視頻錄影裝置與碎石不銹鋼進行重組實驗,以揭露「人類是無法得知宇宙的起源」的概念。導演溫成與監製徐小明跟著展望執行著他的計畫、尋找石頭、聘請爆破專家,和協調高速攝影團體。遊走在宇宙觀、物質與社會寫實的脈絡中的《石頭記》,導演透過詳實的紀錄,呈現藝術創作歷程中的諸多社會印象,讓影片不僅僅是創作的歷程,更是中國社會現實一面的窺視。

Chinese contemporary artist, Zhan Wang, is creating an awe-inspiring piece titled My Personal Universe. He plans to explode a gigantic boulder, film the process from six different angles using high-speed cameras, then restage the experiment with a video installation featuring the six footages and stainless steel replicas of the stone fragments from the blast, thereby conveying the idea that “mankind will never know the true origins of the universe”. Diector Rick Widmer and producer Tsui Siu-ming follow the artist as he carries out his plan, from looking for the rock and hiring demolition experts to coordinating with the high-speed videography team. Traversing between cosmology, materialism, and society, Legend of the Stone illustrates the various social impressions which arise in the course of artistic creation through the director’s detailed documenting. The film does not merely record a creative process, but also offers a glimpse into a realistic side of Chinese society.

《展望:二十年造形回顧》係北京藝術家展望追求造形突破的影音集錦,他創作及展覽時一定保留錄象,此回爲了集中於「形」的發展,雖没納入他較非形體的其它觀念藝術作品,確也清晰地看得到「觀念」興起於80年代末的中國藝術界後,深深埋入他的許多作品當中;尤其更難得的是,展望從没如此完整地自叙追求造形的歷史經緯。本片揭露了一位藝術家如何不計代價,執着於探所「形」根本之可貴經驗。

Zhan Wang: 20 Years in Pursuing Forms is an audiovisual compilation of the Beijing artist’s attempts at making breakthroughs in his pursuit of forms. He has a habit of recording his creative processes and exhibitions on film, and this particular video focuses on the development of “form”. Although his pieces with non-form tendencies are not included, it can still be clearly observed that the notion of “conceptualization”, which arose in the Chinese art world in the late 1980s, is an intrinsic element in many of his works. What is especially precious is that Zhan has never given such a comprehensive personal account of his pursuit of forms. This film brings to light the invaluable experience stemming from an artist’s relentless exploration of “form”, no matter the cost.

黃明川,出生於嘉義,曾赴紐約與洛杉磯學習繪畫、攝影等,致力於獨立製片多年,《西部來的人》、《寶島大夢》、《破輪胎》等三部為其電影劇情長片作品,而近年來他專注於拍攝藝術紀錄片,以藝術及藝術家為拍攝主體,涵蓋藝術領域多元,為臺灣藝術留下眾多紀錄。

展望生於1962年,現在北京工作、居住,為中國當代藝術家在世界藝壇的的重要代表人物之一。代表作品不銹鋼「假山石」被廣泛展出與收藏,包括紐約大都會、洛杉磯現代藝術博物館等)。其作品以觀念藝術為啟發點,並落實在物質材料上,通過再製造以及對材料意義的發覺,走出了一條觀念雕塑之路。

《他們創作 他們生活》記錄著於東岸扎根的10位不同藝術工作者和團體的影像作品,這些藝術家在山與海的架構中產出的部落,用凝視採擷天地萬物間的靈感、用創作歌頌生命、用藝術滋潤自己的生活。此次影展從中選取七部作品,其中《冉而山的混沌與清澈》一作,透過導演黃至琦的紀錄,描繪阿道.巴辣夫.冉所組成的「冉而山劇團」的歷程,冉而山劇場不僅是一個創作型劇場,更通過行動關注現代社會的現象,探討受制約的社會化身體,如何回歸原初生命經驗和心靈的源頭。

In a Life of Art is a video work chronicling the undertakings of ten different artists/collectives based on the east coast of Taiwan. On tribal lands shaped by mountains and the sea, these artists draw inspiration from the world around them through observation, praise life with creation, and nourish their own lives with art. Seven works have been selected for screening at this year’s film festival, in The Murkiness and Clarity of Langasan, Leo Huang documents the journey of Langasan Theater formed by Adaw Palaf Langasan. The group does not only engage in creative theater, but also addresses social modern phenomena by taking action, exploring how a socialized body under constraints can find a way back to early-life experiences and the origins of spirituality.

Shoulder the Lion is a visually stunning documentary about the worlds of three artists who have been struck by tragedy – a blind photographer, a musician suffering from hearing loss, and a painter who has lost part of her brain. Through this film, viewers come to understand how they regard art with renewed perceptions, as well as what art means to them, after having lost a part of the sensory system. Directors Erinnisse Rebisz and Patryk Rebisz attempt to explore the issue of life through moving images – how do people pick themselves back up and face the uncertainties of the future after losing what is most important to them? And how do the three artists in the film find their respective ways of coping with their new circumstances?

爾尼斯・豪雅(Erinnisse Rebisz)來自於紐約市的電視與電影創作者,曾指導多部電視紀錄片與電視秀。她所執導的紀錄長片曾與HBO播映、並且獲得美國人道協會起源獎最佳電視紀錄片的提名。

導演賀照緹記錄著三位在台東的道上兄弟,透過影像描述他們在每年元宵節時,如何在炸寒單的祭典儀式中擔任肉身寒單爺。導演戴著團隊歷經22個月的拍攝時間,在2006年完成《炸神明》的取材與製作。「炸寒單爺」是台東縣在元宵節時的儀式,透過「肉身寒單」的角色,用幾近赤裸的方式讓信眾往身上燃爆鞭炮,藉以紀念寒單爺。許多道上兄弟把儀式的過程當成展現膽識的方式,而片中的三位主角,代表不同世代的人,與不同的現實生活與問題,即便寒單爺是共同的背景,卻反映出不同型態的社會寫實。

In this feature, director Ho Chao-Ti chronicles the annual routine of three gang mates from Taitung. On Lantern Festival each year, they assume the role of Lord Handan (a god of wealth) for the “Bombing Lord Handan” ceremony. Ho and his crew spent 22 months making The Gangster’s God, completing filming and production in 2006. “Bombing Lord Handan” is a ritual which takes place in Taitung County on Lantern Festival to commemorate the deity. Believers throw lit firecrackers at the near-naked bodies of individuals who volunteer to be human targets in a ceremony which many gangsters perceive to be a way of demonstrating courage. The film’s three protagonists represent different generations, lives, and problems. While they share common ground as Lord Handan “body doubles”, each reflects a disparate aspect of social reality.

SACRES is a visual documentary exploring the primitive ceremonial dance depicted in Igor Stravinsky’s masterpiece, The Rite of Spring. Directors Étienne Aussel and Valérie Gabail film dancers in close proximity, capturing the fantasies and creativity brought about by dance. Together with the ethnographic archives of individuals the likes of Jean Rouch, Luc de Heusch, and Friedrich Murnau, it highlights the connotation of dance with respect to archaic rites and ancient mystique, enabling viewers to see the true creative powers choreographers possess, as well as the visual impact they are capable of conjuring. The film was selected for competition at the Festival International de Programmes Audiovisuels in 2016.

《夢遊》是一部描繪生活如荒漠、時間凍結的影像作品,闡述著現實化解於虛無,如夢流走的狀態,同時也是一部中國當代文化困境的紀錄。透過中國藝術家的生存影像,揭示著與一般人一樣,在紛亂無法掌握的社會中掙扎的無奈與困惑。影片中的藝術家涵括行為藝術家李娃克、畫家王永平、詩人魔頭貝貝、畫家丁德福等,雖然他們展現對世俗無比的敏銳與創造力,但卻在生活中猶如自我放逐流浪般地,被驅逐於世俗之外。中國獨立電影導演黃文海,透過影像的描繪,希望刻畫出這些人心中的人士與自我救贖過程,在荒誕中展現真誠,透過持續的努力產出試著在社會中留下印記。本片在獨特的影像描述技法下,獲得巴黎真實電影節大獎,並參與今年法國巴黎龐畢度藝術中心成立40週年的大型回顧展。

Dream walking is a video work depicting an existence likened to life in the desert, and one in which time freezes. It tells of the dissolution of reality into nothingness, similar to the fading of dreams, while documenting the plight of contemporary Chinese culture at the same time. Through footages recording how Chinese artists are surviving in modern society, the film reveals that they, just like the average person, feel helpless and frustrated as they struggle in a chaotic society over which they have no control. Behavioral artist Li Wake, painters Wang Yongping and Ding Defu, as well as poet Motou Beibei, are among those featured in the work. Although they demonstrate unparalleled sensitivity and creativity, they seem to lead lives of self-exile, isolated from society. Through moving images, Chinese independent film director Huang Wen-Hai hopes to show audiences the artists’ perception of being inner selves, their process of self-redemption, as well as how they are trying to make a mark in society by being constantly diligent and displaying sincerity amidst absurdity. The film’s unique visual technique won Dream walking the Grand Prix at Cinéma du Réel in Paris, and has also earned it a place in a large-scale retrospective taking place this year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Centre Pompidou.

A community of people from the Middle East and North Africa reside in an Israeli border town near the Gaza Strip. Despite years of being constantly bombarded with missiles, they still observe traditional Moroccan celebrations and continue to welcome newcomers. Director Laura Bialias walks through the town, chronicling how people voice out their dreams in underground shelters by creating a style of music which fuses local characteristics with Middle Eastern culture, while also incorporating Western rhythms. In this condemned city, Bialias searches for stories shaped by music. The richly creative community here moved her, and went on to change her perception of life processes and love. Rock in the Red Zone fully demonstrates the power of creation – how it changes people, circumstances, and lives. Like magic, it leads the people of a barren land into hope.

香港編舞鬼才伍宇烈,於1996 年為六位男舞者量身訂造舞蹈作品《男生》,並於1998 年獲法國班諾雷國際大賽編舞獎,當時在香港獲得熱烈迴響。導演黎宇文把《男生》延續到紀錄片《男生・故事》內,記載《男生》一作不同時代參與者的演出歷程,以及一群當代男舞者們跨越二十年的熱血和觸動,台灣傑出舞者周書毅受邀演出主角,讓《男生》再現了精彩的當代詮釋,由於舞者來自亞洲四方,這場跨世代的紀錄同時也書寫了香港舞蹈的半邊歴史。

Hong Kong choreographer Yuri Ng, known for his quirky genius, was awarded the Prix d’Auteur at the Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis (Bagnolet) in France in 1998 for Boy Story. The production, which debuted in 1996, was a big hit with Hong Kong audiences. Director Maurice Lai has extended the story by creating an eponymous documentary that chronicles the performances of casts from different generations, as well as the enthusiasm and motivations of these male contemporary dancers spanning two decades. Veteran Taiwanese dancer Chou Shu Yi was invited to take up the leading role in the latest revival of the classic, resulting in yet another delightful modern interpretation of Boy Story. As the participating dancers come from all over Asia, this cross-generational documentary is also a testament to an integral part of Hong Kong dance history.

安德烈.維萊(André Villers)是法國當代的攝影家與視覺藝術家,在他豐沛的人生中,持續創作是他生活的縮影。他持續的拍攝,即便到了82歲依然展現旺盛的創作能量,在他精彩的一生之中,曾經拍攝了多位歐洲重量級的藝術家,包含藝術家畢卡索、夏卡爾和達利、電影大師費里尼、路易斯.布紐爾、以及建築師勒.柯比意,但即便見證了這些近百年的重要藝術家,他依然低調地生活,悄然透過影像傳遞創作熱情於全世界。導演馬爾凱塔・托馬諾娃(Marketa Tomanova)回顧了安德烈的人生影像,讓觀眾看見其生命能量與對影像工作的熱情,以紀錄影像作為安德烈.維萊死後得以見證一生活力的最佳表現。

André Villers was a French contemporary photographer and visual artist. Continuous creation was the epitome of his abundant life, and even at the age of 82, he still demonstrated exuberant creativity. Over the course of his wonderful life, he had the opportunity to take photos of many European art world celebrities, including artists Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Salvador Dalí, film maestros Federico Fellini and Luis Buñuel, and architect Le Corbusier. Despite having witnessed the lives of some of the most important artists of the past century, he chose to keep a low profile, spreading his passion for creation throughout the world quietly with his images. Director Marketa Tomanova takes a retrospective look at footages documenting Villers’s life, showing viewers the artist’s vitality and passion for his work in a documentary which best attests to the Frenchman’s lifelong zeal after his passing.

《凝視伊斯坦堡》描繪了亞美尼亞土耳其裔攝影師阿拉.古勒(Ara Guler) 的故事以及記錄了他於伊斯坦堡當地的回顧展覽籌備過程。阿拉.古勒從事攝影已超過60年,以黑白攝影為著名,拍攝超過100多件影像作品,從當地底層工人到著名藝術家畢卡索肖像,呈現20世紀下半葉以來的土耳其當地面貌。他認為攝影記者為透過相機記錄歷史,並向下一代傳遞特定時間的生活方式、藝術、和傳統風俗。

The Eye of Istanbul depicts the story of Armenian-Turkish photographer Ara Güler and documents the preparation of his retrospective exhibition in Istanbul. He has been engaged in photography for more than 60 years and rose to fame for his monochrome pictures. Ranging from photos of local laborers to a portrait of renowned artist Pablo Picasso, his repertoire consists of over 100 works which illustrate real life in Turkey from the latter half of the 20th century onwards. Güler believes that a photojournalist’s mission is to record history through the camera lens, and also to preserve the lifestyles, art, and traditional customs of specific time periods for future generations.

以紀實攝影之盛名始於70年代的攝影家林柏樑,曾與名畫家席德進有師生之緣,深識席老師於藝術及同志心性上的孤單;也由於親近他,而留下難能可貴的影像記載。本片另探及林柏樑與母親的深情,母親是第一位鼓勵他拍照的親人。從貼近領悟這兩位長者,林柏樑的框景掌握延伸至對作家及社會底層的高度敏銳反應,闊充至更深刻的精神內涵,是一部經由交談來審視攝影者視野的短片,也直指林柏樑攝影風格的多元與難辨性。

Lin Bo-Liang, who rose to fame in the 1970s for his documentary photography, was once a student of the renowned painter Shiy De-jinn. He understood well the loneliness his mentor felt as both an artist and a homosexual, and was able to capture some valuable moments because of their closeness. This film also explores the loving relationship between the photographer and his mother, who was the first family member to encourage him to take pictures. In addition to providing in-depth insights into the lives of these two elderly people, Lin’s lens is also highly responsive towards the activities of writers and grassroots communities, thereby significantly expanding the spiritual depth of his works. This film is a conversation examining a photographer’s vision, which, in this case, refers to the diversity and complexity of Lin’s style.

林柏樑為台灣紀實攝影家,曾向席德進學畫並自學攝影,曾獲得吳連三藝術類攝影獎。身為「V-10視覺藝術群」的一員,他以攝影記錄台灣人文風景,並於1998年開始受託進行《文學的容顏:台灣作家群像攝影》計畫,捕捉作家身影與讀者甚至文學間的對話關係。

黃明川,出生於嘉義,曾赴紐約與洛杉磯學習繪畫、攝影等,致力於獨立製片多年,《西部來的人》、《寶島大夢》、《破輪胎》等三部為其電影劇情長片作品,而近年來他專注於拍攝藝術紀錄片,以藝術及藝術家為拍攝主體,涵蓋藝術領域多元,為臺灣藝術留下眾多紀錄。

烏利・希克(Uli Sigg),於1946年出生於瑞士,1995至1998年期間,曾出任瑞士駐中國、朝鮮、以及蒙古大使。希克涉獵中國當代藝術接近四十年的時間,作品涵括350位中國當代藝術家,約2200件作品,建立了世界上最重要的中國當代藝術收藏系統。2012年,他捐贈給香港M+視覺文化博物館1453件作品。2016年,邁克爾·辛德耶姆(Michael Schindhelm)執導的紀錄片《烏利·希克的中國生活》,描繪了自20世紀70年代以來中國三十年來的政治社會背景,以及身為企業家、外交官和收藏家的希克如何在因緣際會下,與中國產生了不可分割的淵源。

Born in Switzerland in 1946, Uli Sigg served as the Swiss Ambassador to China, North Korea, and Mongolia between 1995 and 1998. He has been dabbling in the collection of Chinese contemporary art for close to 40 years and owns some 2,200 works by 350 artists. Having established the world’s most important contemporary Chinese art collection, he donated 1,453 works to the M+, the new museum for visual culture in Hong Kong, in 2012. The Chinese Lives of Uli Sigg, a documentary made by director Michael Schindhelm in 2016, depicts the Chinese political and social landscape spanning three decades beginning in the 1970s, as well as how fate led Sigg to forge an inseparable bond with China as an entrepreneur, diplomat, and art collector.

Sasha Waltz is Germany’s most prominent female choreographer after Pina Pausch. Her works demonstrate a new aesthetic style which is deeply subjective and awe-inspiring. 俄羅斯行為藝術家與政治運動者帕夫倫斯基(Pyotr Pavlensky)最廣為人知的行動,是在2012年時,為了聲援俄羅斯龐克樂隊暴動小貓(Pussy Riot),在莫斯科紅場將自己的嘴縫上,稱為「無言的抗議」。對於帕夫倫斯基來說,身體是最佳的武器,用以作為表達藝術手段的媒介,他時常犧牲自己的身體來反映各種權力對生活的干預。他希望自己在靜默之下成為一個物件,一個讓公眾反射自身行動的物件。導演艾琳・朗格曼(Irene Langemann)透過記錄帕夫倫斯基的行為藝術,忠實呈現其去機構化的藝術表現形態,片中隨著鏡頭轉換編織著橫跨不同場域的行為藝術。

Behavioral artist and political activist, Pyotr Pavlensky, is best known for sewing his mouth together at Moscow’s Red Square in 2012, an act dubbed “The Silent Protest” carried out in support of Russian protest punk rock group, Pussy Riot. For Pavlensky, the body is the ultimate weapon which he uses as a medium for artistic expression, sacrificing his own mortal frame to reflect how various powers interfere with life. Through silence, he aspires to become an object which enables the public to reflect on their own actions. By documenting Pavlensky’s performances at different angles and locations, director Irene Langemann faithfully presents the artist’s de-institutionalized expression style.

20th century Czech artist Zdeněk Rykr rose to fame for the designs he created for the renowned chocolate brand, Orion, thus gaining him recognition for his commercial work at an early stage of his career. In addition to frequently being commissioned for commercial artwork, Rykr was also actively involved in art movements. Despite this, he was never acknowledged as an avant-garde artist. Through documenting the life of Rykr, director Andrea Culková tries to uncover the common problem faced by today’s artists and curators: How does one strike a balance between artistic expression, lifestyle, and commercialism?

Y/Our Music immerses itself in the world of Thai musical expressions, from traditional music to labor songs and classical pop. As nine musicians display their musical expression, a true reflection of their lives is revealed through the sounds and rhythms belonging to the city in which they reside. The interwoven images give rise to a diverse musical world which includes everything from traditional Thai instruments to indie music, offering us insights into the real music industry and performance spaces of Thailand. Directors Waraluck Hiransrettawat Every and David Reeve have captured Thailand’s current music scene on film, taking viewers to different environments in order to discover how the musicians are linked by their passion and will to survive, rendering the nation’s mainstream culture banal.

皮耶.謝佛(Pierre Schaeffer)為電子音樂之父,身後留下來的遺產,讓世人認識到音樂是關乎聲響而非單純音符構成。在當今的時代,任何聲響可以被錄製、攔截、操作與重新配置,最終成為音樂創作的素材,而《聲音獵人》就是一部關於聲音節錄而後作為音樂創作基礎的計畫。導演貝利爾.科爾茲(Beryl Koltz)跟隨著由兩位年輕音樂家組成的團體KIZ,從巴黎到瑞典、再到倫敦與美國,KIZ透過與其他類型的音樂人接觸,在不同的背景與音樂分類中激盪出火花。這段透過聲響紀錄的音樂旅程,讓觀眾看見世界,以及在聲音之下如何轉換成無限可能的音樂,讓整個世界的聲響都可以是彈奏的樂器。

Pierre Schaeffer, the father of electronic music, left the world a gift after his passing – the knowledge that music is about different sounds rather than just musical notation. In today’s world, any sound can be recorded, intercepted, manipulated, and reconfigured to ultimately become the “raw material” for making music. Soundhunters is a film about a project which uses recorded sounds as the basis for music creation. Director Beryl Koltz follows KIZ, a group comprising two young musicians, from Paris to Sweden, and from London to the United States, chronicling the creative sparks generated by the duo as they encounter musicians of other genres and in different settings. Viewers are taken on a journey in which they will see the world, as well as how sounds are transformed into the infinite possibilities of music, turning everything we can hear into playable instruments.

足跡遍佈紐約、柏林與布魯塞爾的比利時藝術家格特・羅賓斯(Gert Robijns ),他在中年後回到自己土生土長的鄉村,一個只有200人的比利時小鎮。當他的祖母搬進老人公寓後,他決定在家鄉買一棟房子給祖母,並且以此打造一個全新的家,一個充滿雕塑與藝術品的空間。導演阿爾定・利尹克(Aldine Reinink)跟隨著這個計畫,記錄格特・羅賓斯如何建造全新的家、以及經歷祖母的衰退和自身對家鄉的愛恨感受。當觀眾透過影像接近藝術家的生活,越能發現其孤獨沈重的內心世界,並在見證藝術創作的誕生。

Gert Robijns, a Belgian artist who has left his mark in New York, Berlin, and Brussels, returned to the village where he was born and raised – a township with a population of just 200 – after reaching middle age. Following his grandmother’s move into an elderly home, he decided to buy her a house in his hometown and create a brand new home filled with sculptures and artworks. Director Aldine Reinink follows the progress of this project, documenting how Robijns builds a new abode and copes with his grandmother’s declining health, as well as his love and hate for his hometown. When audiences see an artist’s life projected on the screen, they become more aware of his or her inner loneliness and burdens while witnessing the birth of artworks.

當我們面對鏡子時,眼前的影像就如同我們自我防衛的武器。這是導演佩德羅・菲利佩馬克斯(Pedro Filipe Marques)描述《你的位置》的方式,在這部實驗性的紀錄之中,他表徵著大環境的變遷,用戲院內外的變遷作為索引,殘破不堪的環境是自身生命經驗的映射,在這個諾大的空間之中,我們等待著觀眾,去注意到我們的衰退與消逝。在《你的位置》的影像之中,用若隱若現的敘說,反射著在整體經濟系統變化下的生命故事,隱喻著就算我們的世界倒塌了,讓人演繹的戲院依然會永久存在,我們只得以選著一個適合自己表演的舞台。

“We stare at mirrors as if ‘image’ was a weapon of self-defense.” This is how director Pedro Filipe Marques describes The Room You Take. In this experimental documentary, he uses the changes taking place inside and outside the theater to symbolize the changes in our overall environment, with the dilapidated surroundings being reflections of our life experiences. In this vast space, we wait for audiences to notice our decline and disappearance. Through a vaguely present narrative, the images in the film illustrate life under a changing macro-economy, implying that even if our world collapses, the theater – a place where people can become someone else – will continue to exist for all eternity. All we have to do is choose a stage that is suited to us.

安尼克・葛澤琳(Annick Ghijzelings)以坡里尼西亞的旅程作為創握背景,以影像呈現自己如何冥想時間的現象。她試圖捕捉時間的流動,用27個簡短片段,拼湊出不同型態時間的呈現方式。整體影像的敘事手法充滿詩意,讓不同影像間在層層堆疊、過往與慢動作的鏡頭下,成為窺見當地生活的視野。在導演多層次的影像手法裡,從時間感官之間向觀眾體現她對於藝術、科學、哲學、文明與原生文化的諸多思維,站在過去、現在與未來之間呈現種種耐人尋問的議題。

Using a journey to Polynesia as the backdrop, director Annick Ghijzelings shows her personal meditation on the phenomenon of time through moving images. She attempts to capture the flow of time, presenting the various ways in which it can be represented in 27 short fragments. Her poetic narrative, together with interweaving footages of the past and slow-motion shots, gives viewers a glimpse into the local life. By putting together a multilayered image of time, she questions the boundaries between art, science, and philosophy, between advanced civilization and native cultures, and between the past, present, and future.

《流動電影院》由雪莉·亞伯拉罕(Shirley Abraham)和阿米特・邁德何詩雅(Amit Madheshiya)共同執導,影片描繪了幾個微型創業公司來到印度西部偏遠地區放映電影的艱辛歷程。這些村落都沒有電影院,村民們必須花一年的時間等待,才能看一次電影。相較於一般戲院,露天影院的放映面臨了更多限制,包含惡劣的戶外環境、放映機零件損壞和規格不同等問題,影片同時記錄了放映機械員在面臨這些困境時,如何透過自身專業克服技術問題,才不辜負村民的漫長等待。

Co-directed by Shirley Abraham and Amit Madheshiya, The Cinema Travellers depicts the hardships experienced by several micro-startups in screening films in remote parts of Western India. There are no movie theaters in these villages, and residents have to wait an entire year to see a film. Compared with their conventional counterparts, open-air cinemas face many more constraints, the likes of which include poor outdoor environments and the damage or incompatibility of projector parts. The film also documents how screening technician overcome such problems using their professional skills, so that the villagers’ lengthy wait will not be in vain.

《三戰》是一個從紀錄開始的影像計畫,描繪武術中英雄主義形象的影像計畫。藝術家汪紹綱探訪了台灣傳統武術的發源地雲林西螺,調查後發現了武術的傳承從台灣早期移民社會開始,這些百年的武術套路在一代相傳一代之後,從不同人的身體中體現各種不同的過去傳說,然而真正的武術內涵已經從視覺中消失。藉由修行者的角度與呼吸中找到那不見的精神,閉上眼睛冥視一段可能快要失傳的台灣傳統武術,與一片看不到民族復興的廢墟與灰燼。而此次《三戰》將以一畫的單頻型態,重新呈現於觀影眾面前。

Sanchin is a video project which began as a documentary depicting the image of heroism in the context of martial arts. Upon visiting Xiluo Township in Yunlin County, the birthplace of the eponymous traditional Taiwanese martial art, and conducting investigations there, artist Wang Shao-Gang discovered that the passing down of the craft started with the early immigrant community. As its centuries-old forms are handed down from one generation to the next, they give rise to various historic legends through different individuals. However, the true spirit of Sanchin has been lost amidst the focus on its visual aspect. Through the practitioners’ eyes and each breath they take, the film finds that missing essence. And as viewers close their eyes in meditation, they bear witness to the potential disappearance of the traditional Taiwanese martial art, as well as a scorched wasteland where ethnic revival will never transpire. This time, it will be presented to the audience in single-channel format.

汪紹綱,台北人,擅長以錄像形式來探討自我與外在的連結,不斷嘗試影像形式之實踐,致力於重新組織電影、錄像、紀錄片等形式的影像創作,消彌範疇界線,去探討真實的位置,構造各種來自世界的影像。目前持續嘗試研究在地人文與環境歷史的影像形式創作。

《錢江衍派》是一部由四個家庭共同完成的電影,在2014年的太陽花運動結束之後,導演們發現自己的父母雖然都肯定民主政治的發展,卻對社會運動有著諸多疑慮。即便父母成長於社會運動蓬勃發展的80年代,卻也都不曾親身參與其中。四位導演決定透過「拍電影」來瞭解家人的過往,並和他們溝通彼此不同的想法 ,並以作家施明正的經歷作為改編劇本,由家人們飾演80年代的異議份子。家人重試著演出他們想像中的異議份子,進而在拍攝的過程中進入了自己的故事,成了各自生命經驗的回顧與反思,最後的影像呈現著這段家人之間互動的過程。

Time Splits in the River was completed with the help of four families. After the Sunflower Student Movement of 2014 came to pass, the film’s directors found that although their parents acknowledged the development of democratic politics, they had many doubts about the protests – despite having grown up in the 1980s, a time when social movements flourished, they did not want to be involved. Consequently, the four directors decided to gain an understanding of their respective families’ past and share their different ideas with them by “making a film”. Through adapting the experiences of writer Shi Mingzheng into a script, they had their family members assume the roles of 1980s dissidents. In the process of attempting to portray what they perceive a dissident to be, they become immersed in their own stories, through which they are given the opportunity to review and reflect on their respective life experiences. The final product is a series of images depicting the interactions between the members of each family.

廖烜榛、黃奕捷、李佳泓、王又平,四人為大學同儕,2015年畢業於台北藝術大學美術系,現活動於台北,台灣。2013年起,四人便數度與同儕、家人合作創作計畫,嘗試在藝術生產的實作中發展與「異見」對話的工作方法。作品以行為表演、錄像、計畫型創作為主。

「錢江衍派」,是片名,也是施氏的家族堂號。台灣各地的老房子,時常在正屋上方可見「○○衍派」四字,標誌著家族姓氏的淵源和血緣的流傳,「錢江」為施氏家族常見的堂號之一。在這項與家人合作的電影計畫中,劇本是發想自施明正的故事 ; 而電影的片廠,則是彰化縣埔鹽鄉施姓家族的一幢老房子,房子正屋門楣上的匾額的正寫著「錢江衍派」四字,本計畫便以此為名。

溫和的潮水拍打沙灘,一只三足烏鴉落在暗礁上,身後跟著一個全副武裝的劍士。見識被劇烈的頭痛驚醒,他發現自己身在一個鬧市中心被遺棄的閣樓房間裡。他不確定剛才是在夢裡看到了一只烏鴉在海岸邊,或著他正是那只烏鴉,夢到自己是現實中城市裡被遺忘的劍士。影片展現作者對桃花源記般遠離世俗的嚮往,同時引出周公夢蝶所提出的對於精神存在的悖論。烏鴉帶領著劍士,正如劍士帶領著觀眾,游離於現實與幻想世界之間,對過去自我思辨,與幻想的世界告別。

Gentle waves lap onto a beach. A three-legged crow lands on a reef with a fully armored kendo warrior in tow. He is startled awake by a splitting headache and finds himself in an abandoned downtown attic. He is not sure whether he just saw a crow by the coast in his dream, or if he is actually a crow dreaming that he was a forgotten swordsman in the real world. The film illustrates its maker’s longing for the seclusion similar to that depicted in Tao Yuanming’s Peach Blossom Spring, while also leading one to ponder the reality of one’s existence as the philosopher Zhuang Zhou once did after he dreamt of being a butterfly. The crow serves as a guide to the warrior, who in turn leads the audience into a world which drifts between reality and fantasy. By reflecting on one’s past, one bids farewell to the world of fantasy.

楊泳樑,1980 年出生於上海,2003 年畢業於中國美術學院視覺傳達專業,現生活、工作於上海。他從 2005 年起從事當代藝術的試驗與創作,涉及攝影、繪畫、影像 與裝置等多種媒介。楊泳梁的作品連接著傳統和當下,以當代語彙結合前沿技術重現東方傳統的審美方式和文人情節。作品在國內外廣泛展出,包括莫斯科雙年展、UCCA 尤倫斯當代藝術中心、維多利亞國家美術館等。
